Do you need to be seen quickly by any available GP?

Silverstream Health Centre believes it is important to be able to see your GP when you are sick. We run an urgent clinic to help patients be seen on the same day for urgent problems. You NEED to phone reception to make an appointment. You will first speak to a doctor or nurse practitioner who will discuss your needs and determine if a face to face visit is necessary.
This clinic is busiest between 9am and 10am on Mondays. We try to see casual patients if time constraints allow.
Occasionally we may need to shut the queue for the urgent clinic due to patient overload. we do our best to avoid this situation but sometimes it can’t be avoided.

For urgent health concerns outside of Silverstream Health Centre opening times, you can be seen through the after hours clinics. Silverstream Health Centre believes it is important to support an after hours service in Upper and Lower Hutt to allow local patients with transport challenges to be seen. We split our GP cover across both sites, but you may also be seen by another local GP who does not work at Silverstream Health Centre. Do you want to make an appointment and prefer to choose who you see?
We now offer phone appointments. These are appropriate for non-urgent health concerns when you do not need to be examined. We hope this will reduce the need for patients to travel to the practice from home or work. Phone consult appointments are only available for patients registered at SHC.
These types of appointments are suitable when a physical examination is not usually needed. For example: discussing your medications, discussing results and/or scans, support quitting smoking, discussing contraception options, allergies, hair loss and medical certificates for work.
Note: Only GP appointments can be booked through ManageMyHealth.
How they work
Set a time that suits you and your preferred GP to discuss your health concerns. Make a note of the phone number you would like to be contacted on when making your booking.
How it works: your GP will call you on that day around that time, so make sure you are available to take the call and are sat somewhere where you can talk openly about your health concerns. Prescriptions can be sent to your choice of pharmacy and you will receive your invoice by email for online payment.
You need a ManageMyHealth account to book telephone consults. Phone consults will be made to your regular mobile or landline number.
Extended hours clinics
Silverstream Health Centre strives to help you fit your consults around increasingly busy lives. In addition to traditional 9am to 5pm routine appointments, we also offer early morning appointments (from 7:30am on Monday, from 8am Tuesday to Friday) as well as evening clinics (5pm to 8pm Monday to Thursday). Our evening clinics are popular so book in advance. We do not charge an extra fee for routine evening appointments.
You can book any routine GP appointments through your MMH app so you can check the availability across our team.
For matters that require your doctor to provide advice or services in an electronic format, you can also use ManageMyHealth’s electronic consultation function. This is where you can send your doctor a secure message through the MMH portal to avoid having to come in for a consultation.
You will receive a response within two working days providing you with expert information and advice regarding your questions.
Prescriptions can be sent to your choice of pharmacy and you will receive your invoice by email for online payment.

How does it work?
When booking through ManageMyHealth you will need to note next to your booking the phone number you would like to be contacted on. If booked through reception, they will take care of this for you. A phone number is required for both to be able to have a phone appointment.
Why do I have to pay for this?
We have expanded our appointment type offering to make it more convenient for our patients to see their Doctor, but it still takes time and resource for interactions so we need to charge a fee to cover costs.
Is it secure?
Yes, these types of appointments are safe and secure. If you do not want to be overheard during a phone consultation, make sure you are out of earshot of other people.
