We are sad to announce that our most senior GP, Dr Marko Kljakovic, has decided to retire.
While this is a great loss to our practice and the primary care community of the Hutt Valley, we are delighted that he will finally get more time with his family after many years of dedicated service.
From January 2022, Marko’s patients will be looked after by Dr Taranjit Singh and Dr Danny Liao. In the interim, the rest of the team will be available.
We know that there are a lot of people who would like to thank him for the support and comfort he has given patients over the years, so we have a book available at reception for messages to Marko. We will present this to him in the New Year. So, if you would like to pass on some thoughts to him, you are most welcome to pop in and write down some words. Alternatively you can send an email to Marko.HappyRetirement@gmail.com
Here is a message from Marko himself to his patients:
After 34 years of doctoring, I’ve decided I need to retire from clinical medicine.
In 2007 I sustained 64% burns to my body in an accident that should have killed me – but it didn’t. Due to the incredible community support I received following my accident I decided to purchase Silverstream Health Centre and give a few years of service back to the community.
Now I’m entering my 65th year I’ve found that after some 1900 baby deliveries, 220,000 consultations and processing roughly 4,000,000 scripts/results and discharge letters (I’m not kidding, this is the same for most GPs of my era), I am so very, very tired and need a rest.
To my past and present patients, I say thank you for the trust and forgiveness of my failings.
To my co-workers, I say thank you for sharing your joy, despair, and lives with me.
To my wife and family, I ask for forgiveness for never being home.
To my future (Upper Heaven – I’m not leaving any time soon!) – who knows, time will tell.
