Looking after ourselves

To do the best job looking after the health of our patients, we must also look after ourselves. So in 2019 we started to really focus on the wellbeing of our staff. 

To provide some encourage and motivation we developed the 2019 Wellbeing Challenge. Each staff member could choose one or multiple goals that they would like to achieve over the course of the year. The goals needed to relate to their wellbeing – whether it be physical, mental or spiritual wellness and be personalised and achievable (but challenging).

We had a huge uptake and a great response to the exercise. Goals ranged from weight loss and fitness improvements, to learning a new language, learning to cook or finishing the garden landscaping.


They were given encouragement and support but also given the tools they needed to accomplish their goals on their own, in their own way. And we had some great results! Over 60kg lost collectively. Fitness personal bests being smashed left, right and centre!

Everyone who achieved their goal was eligible for a prize draw to win a trip to Italy – there is no better motivation than pasta and pizza! The winner was drawn at our end of year function and went to our fabulous administrator, Teri who managed a four metre handstanding walk (yes four metres!). Wellness and wellbeing are such important parts of our happiness and mental health. It needs to be nourished and supported, by ourselves and by those surrounding us. We encourage everyone to make plans and set goals to work on your wellbeing. Can you workplace do something similar? You never know until you ask the question.

Who knows what will happen in 2020!
